Program Description:
This course will expose practicing radiologists and trainees to current advances in breast imaging. The morning session will focus on digital mammography, breast ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging, and the afternoon session will focus on breast biopsy techniques. In addition, participants will attend a focused risk management session on how to be an effective medical expert. Two hours of this program will address breast biopsy and 1.5 hours will address digital mammography.
Program Objectives:
1. Review the pros and cons of available digital equipment and discuss how to efficiently integrate digital
mammography into a breast imaging practice
2. Outline the role of breast ultrasound in lesion evaluation and review the ACR lexicon
3. Discuss the ACR lexicon for MR imaging of the breast, review the current indications for breast MRI,
and describe how to incorporate MR-guided breast biopsy into a breast imaging practice
4. Review basic breast biopsy techniques and the importance of radiologic-pathologic correlation
5. Discuss medicolegal aspects of testifying in court and the essential components of an effective
medical expert
