Dear Colleague:
It is my pleasure and privilege to present the 90th annual scientific program of the New England Roentgen Ray Society (NERRS). Originally founded in 1914 “...to study and advance the science of Roentgenology,” the NERRS is the oldest regional radiology society in America. Today, our goals remain unchanged, and the NERRS continues to provide educational opportunities for radiologists throughout New England and to enhance professional relationships among our members.

I am indebted to our education committee’s co-chairs Tina Young Poussaint, Mary Beth Cunnane, and Alexander Bankier, who worked diligently to develop six innovative Friday educational programs. The 2009–2010 program features meetings devoted to Abdominal Imaging, Emergency Radiology, Musculoskeletal Imaging, Pediatric Imaging, Neuroimaging and Thoracic Imaging.

This will mark our third year at the state-of-the-art Joseph B. Martin Conference Center at Harvard Medical School in the Longwood Medical Area. Please visit our website at NERRS.org to view directions to our meeting site, meeting schedules, and unknown film panel cases.

We continue the NERRS Named Lectureship Series this year with the University of Massachusetts Edward Smith Lecture on September 11, 2009, the Boston Children’s Hospital Robert Lebowitz Lecture on February 5, 2010, and the Yale-New Haven Hospital Richard Greenspan Lecture on April 9, 2010. Our Saturday Breast Imaging refresher course will be held on March 6, 2010, and is directed by Priscilla Slanetz. The NERRS is indebted to the diligent stewardship of its executive committee and particularly past presidents Phil Boiselle, Alex Norbash, Deb Levine, Bill Mayo-Smith, Glenn Tung, and Scott Gazelle. I thank President-Elect Stu Silverman, Secretary Deb Gervais, and Treasurer Bettina Siewert for their continued outstanding support. I welcome to the leadership circle Vice President Kristen DeStigter. I would also like to acknowledge Elizabeth Lazarus for her outstanding work as chair of information technology. I also acknowledge the outstanding service of Administrative Secretary Ginny DuLong. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of these individuals and others, the NERRS begins its 90th year with sound leadership and financial positions.

Please join me for another year of education and camaraderie in the New England Roentgen Ray Society. I thank you in advance for your participation and support.

Sincerely,
Pamela W. Schaefer, MD
